Colton is a suburb of Leeds, West Yorkshire. It was originally a village, though since the 1970′s, the area succumed to the rapid urbanisation Leeds, and is now considered a housing estate.
Colton has recently suffered an increase in crime, violence and anti-social behavior. Because of this, an increased police presence has occurred in Colton. Despite this, the crime rate is no worse than some other areas of Leeds.
Neighbouring areas include Halton and Halton Moor to the west, Cross Gates to the north, Whitkirk to the north-west, and Austhorpe to the north-east. Although it is not a direct neighbour, Seacroft is relatively close, as it is about one mile to the north of Colton.
In the mid-1990′s, a retail park was opened in Colton, and more recent industrial development in Colton has lead to the completion of Colton Mill Retail and Business park, a large business park in the east of the area.
