Seacroft

Seacroft is an extensive area of east Leeds, West Yorkshire, England, population 18,000 , and is one of the largest council estates in the country. The name is often used as a catch-all for Seacroft and the neighbouring areas of Whinmoor and Swarcliffe, other large east Leeds council estates which merge into each other.

Seacroft was at one time was a small village between Leeds and York.

The “Village Green” is reported to be the oldest Village Green in the country, and is mentioned in the Domesday Book. The old windmill is still present amongst the estate and has been incorporated into the Windmill Hotel, now known as the Ramada Leeds North.

Seacroft’s previously run down shopping centre was demolished and Tesco have built a 10 store 97,000 sq. ft. superstore complex with Bus Station to employ local people.
